An article in the January 14, 2008 issue of TIME magazine was partially responsible for the creation of Smooth Ambler Spirits. Longtime residents of the Greenbrier Valley, TAG Galyean and John Little knew that they wanted to make something that would leave a mark on West Virginia and the folks who call it home; something to be proud of. But just exactly what that was hadn’t been decided upon. That’s when TAG came across the TIME article featuring the emergence of craft distilling in the United States and with a sly comment of “Why don’t we do this in WV? Start in your garage”, the journey of Smooth Ambler Spirits began.   Founded the following year, Smooth Ambler set out to produce fine spirits by combining patient Appalachian know-how with the best local ingredients. Located in the mountains of West Virginia, we use state-of-the-art distillery equipment in conjunction with the natural resources of the region; high-valley mountain air, natural waters, ideal temperature variations, and friendly folks. The result is a truly remarkable drink.
